I held my breath as we approached the 6-week mark…for some (most?) babies, this is the time that sleep patterns start to become more erratic, moods become more volatile, nursing sessions can go from easy to disaster, etc.
But you? Continue your trend of being the most angelic, fun and calm baby. That’s saying a lot, since I thought your big sister was pretty chill. You just roll with the punches. Dog barks, doorbell rings, your sister rocking you or trying to shove a pacifier in your face? You just smile.
And yes, you are smiling. You have even given me a few brief giggles. It’s AMAZING how much that deepens our bond. I mean, from the moment I met you, I was in love. But seeing your personality develop and watching you give me your whole heart just makes it even more intense.
The only time you’re even a little bit fussy is at night, after your sister goes to bed. You want to be held and rocked, so I’ve started to put you in the ring sling while I read a book or watch TV. I know that the stronger you get and the more you can move around on your own, the less you’ll want to just snore and drool on my chest, so I am lapping up every moment of these sweet snuggles. (Your Daddy loves them, too. You and your sister really are his princesses.)
Because of your birthmark, we got a bonus trip to the doctor this week, which means I also got an update on your weight. You’re 11 pounds, 12 ounces and totally out of newborn clothes now. Big, strong girl! You’re also a nursing champ (although you have started to spit up a bit, which means lots of outfit changes for both of us) and have started to sleep for about 5-6 hours at night, which is life-changing for me.
What else is new? It’s Christmas week and I know Santa has you on the good girl list. I can’t wait to hold you on my lap while we open presents and celebrate how thankful we all are to have such an amazing family. This time next year will be even more exciting!
