6 weeks — and boy, are you fun! Two things started happening recently: you developed more of a personality and Daddy and I started to really understand all of your expressions. I shot this video that I call “The Many Faces of Audrey.”
What used to be slow, shy smiles are now wide-mouthed exultations. We were able to video chat with some of your family members on Thanksgiving, and they all got to see your happy, bubbly face.
You were a trouper, especially since we woke you up from naps to join the chats. (I’m paying for that a bit now, as you have broken your 2-week sleep streak and have been waking up in the middle of the night to grunt, poop and eat.)
I’m so glad to report that you’re doing well with your nightly bottle — switching to the Tommee Tippee bottles made a big difference and you suck down 3.5-4 ounces in record time. I love it!
Things that you love this week: your Daddy (it’s incredible how you light up when he’s around), watching Mommy work out, your swing, your pacifier, stroller walks and chewing/sucking on your fists.
Things you don’t love so much this week: Tummy Time (you’re OK for a while but then you tell me that you.are.done.), outfit changes, dog barks.
I mentioned that you love sucking on your fists — that used to be a sign that you were hungry, but now it seems to be a sign that you have discovered that you have hands and that you control them. You drool everywhere as a result, so we’ve started putting bibs on you more often.
We also put a bib and hat on you to show your divided loyalties during football season: Mommy is a Patriots fan and Daddy roots for the Lions.
But we all cheer for Syracuse!
I’m halfway through my maternity leave and feeling bittersweet about it. I’m also bittersweet about losing my floppy newborn. You still need me, and I love snuggling with you whenever possible. But you’re already starting to look for independence; you love to roll away from me and crawl up my belly and chest, and I fear that soon, you’ll be more interested in toys than staring into my eyes.
My little Bug…we love you so much. You are probably sick of all the kisses, but we just can’t get enough of your sweet cheeks and squishy chins. We’re going to keep kissing you as long as you will let us.
