I think we are officially out of the woods. When uploading photos for this post I was struck by how many show you either asleep or with a big smile on your face.
What a difference just a week can make.
You are, however, my velcro baby. A total mama’s girl (and I feel like I was due, since your big sister is and always has been all about Daddy). Not only do you not like being put down, you really only want to be with me. We call you our little monkey because you grip my neck and shoulders so tightly and if anyone else is holding you and I happen to be in the room, you reach out to me, whimpering and fussing until I take you — and then your face explodes in a grin.
That has made working from home an ongoing challenge. You’ll tolerate some time in the baby carrier or sling but you really just want to be in my arms or on my boob. There have been several days in the last few weeks that I’ve sat you on the desk facing me and wrapped my arms around you to work while you snoozed on my shoulder.
And you are still in our bed. Daddy and I joke that you may be there until you graduate from high school but I know that at some point, probably sooner than I’m ready for, you’ll be crawling and walking and then running away from me. I’ll take the snuggles.
You’re not rolling yet, despite my best efforts. You’re plenty strong enough but just don’t seem that motivated. Your big sister gets down on the floor and rolls around to show you how it’s done and you laugh and laugh…but stubbornly stay where you are.
Speaking of your sister, I may be #1 in your eyes but she’s a very, very close second. The way you two look at each other…well, it honestly takes my breath away. She loves being your big sister and is constantly working to soothe, entertain and encourage you. And in turn, you play with her hair (sometimes not so gently!), wiggle around happily when she dances for you and coo when she sings.
And let’s not forget Daddy. Poor Daddy, who tries so hard to make you smile. You adore him — again, there’s this look you give each other that I just can’t describe but it makes my heart feel tight — but you sure make him work for it.
No teeth yet and still only the lightest cover of fuzz on your head. You have bright blue eyes that I’m convinced will stay that way. Your perfect lips curl into a smile and you squeal with laughter when I tickle you. You snore a little when you sleep and your chunky thighs have rolls on top of rolls.
I love you. With my whole heart.
