Oh my goodness. How did we get here? How has it already been a year since you joined us?
Despite the very long days, and the very sleepless nights, you are a joy, a blessing and the heart of our family. Sincerely, we were not complete until you arrived.
Now, I smile every day as I watch you interact with your Daddy, your big sister, and of course, cling to me.
You are such a funny little kid. Independent in a million ways, you are always getting into something (usually, trouble). You love to knock things off shelves and knock your fists against doors and wander into the pantry to play with the boxes and pull the toilet paper off the roll and put socks on your hands and pull the cat’s tail, and you do it all with a face-splitting grin that is contagious.
You also love to dance, and any time music comes on (even in a commercial), you stop what you’re doing to wiggle around. Now that you’re walking, and walking well, you also have a little squat move that you do, bending your knees until your bottom almost touches the ground, and then snapping back up.
But you still need me. You walk, but you’d prefer being carried. You drink milk out of a bottle but you’d always rather get it right from the source. You wake up several times a night, especially while you’re teething, and you can only be settled down with snuggles (and only from me).
Watching you learn and start to communicate with us has been the most fulfilling adventure. You now know:
- blow me a kiss
- see-see (sister)
You don’t say all of those words, or at least clearly, but you lean in for a hug when we ask for one, and you plant a big open-mouthed kiss on our faces when we ask for one of those.
You also have some favorite foods (banana, peanut butter, cheese) and some that you don’t really care for (avocado, hummus). You are tall with big chunky thighs, and as your hair comes in, it’s curly. Your eyes are ice blue and looking like they’ll stay that way. And you have a mouth full of teeth!
I think you are your daddy’s little clone in terms of looks, but you definitely have my personality. And I’m so proud of the strong, silly, creative and beautiful baby you were and the toddler you’re becoming.
I love you. Thank you for making me your mommy.
